What to Expect on Hive in 2025? gadrian (75)in LeoFinance • 2 days ago (edited) I was thinking to put together a post with what we know about the timeline of developments on Hive and what we should expect on Hive from this perspective from what I know, including some speculations, which may or may not materialize. 1. Hive Core Development This includes two sides: the core apps like HAF, Hivemind and example applications, and changes that need witnesses consensus to be applied, thus a hard fork. There are also changes to the blockchain level that don't require a HF. For example, the ability to break a full account history file into multiple files, and keep the ones you want from the most recent, as a node operator. Please excuse if my language may not be precise, since I am not a witness and only recall this info as a simple user (with a technical background). Also the work of @howo is included here. He may have finished the implementation of the API needed as a prerequisite for being listed to Coinbase by this time. As far as I know, he didn't have anything major going on other than that, but he always finds something else to work on rather quickly on the core side. In 2024, the major focus for the Blocktrades team was on core apps and their applications and non-consensus changes, rather than on changes that require a hard fork. Last update discussed about the updated core apps being launched these days (last week to be more exact, but things could have chanced). So that's a lot of work that finally sees the light of day at the beginning of 2025. Another focus has been on creating an API library for Hive apps, called WAX, based on the new technologies that have been rolled out. I expect that work to continue on a regular basis even for maintenance and updating purposes. The HF seems to be pushed more like toward Q2. At the same time, Blocktrades expects their Lite Accounts API to be rolled out. Past Q2 - and even in the meantime whoever gets freed from app development - we'll see what they'll focus on next. 2. VSC Network - Custom Smart Contracts on Hive I haven't seen any recent updates, but the last ETA we know for this L2 platform anchored by Hive which everyone expects is Q1. Apart from the possibility of creating custom smart contracts to Hive using various programming languages, VSC is going to feature a DEX with connection to the EVM chains and BTC, for starters, working with native coins instead of wrapped ones. There are many benefits that are expected to derive for Hive from the launch of VSC, but likely some of them will take time to materialize into the desired products. 3. INLEO Question or not some aspects about INLEO, they are a HUGE driving force for the progress we have on Hive, on many layers. Their marketing push in 2025 may be conditioned by the approval of the DHF proposal they currently have going on, but their development isn't. So we can be sure they'll have plenty of new developments in 2025, many of them described in the above mentioned proposal. It's interesting that Blocktrades said we need to spend more DHF funds, not less, for Hive to prosper, something he learned from his business experience. 4. Splinterlands Splinterlands has slated a couple of major projects in the Q1 and Q2 of this year. We are talking about a new game mode, the next version in the Land development, the mobile apps, validators, onboarding experience, and glamour and cosmetics. All big things! All impactful. If we count that Q2 starts with a new core set too, they have a lot going on. I think it's still too quiet around Splinterlands when we think about to what is coming. Note that they haven't even pushed any major marketing campaign yet, which has been funded by the DHF. My thinking is they are waiting to have at least the onboarding experience where they want before they kick start it. That includes the mobile apps. Maybe they want the validators launched before that too, but they should already be ready. 5. Distriator The network of Distriator continues to expand. Their model certainly picked up, particularly in certain geographical areas. What I'd like to include here, though, is more of a speculation, based on what @starkerz mentioned in a podcast. Currently, Distriator's cashback works for brick-and-mortar businesses and posting proof of purchase within 30 minutes of making the purchase, if I remember well. Matt said they are thinking to expand the model to purchases made online. 6. Golem Overlord Golem Overlord is a game that started as a replica of TerraCore, but quickly developed to have its own identity and now a second game mode, PvP. It is actively developed and I'm curious what 2025 will bring for this game. 7. Holozing Not clear when Holozing gameplay will be launched, but it will most likely be this year. It is the most expected game on Hive in recent period. Let's hope everything will be fine. Hive and Competition Web 2 started to move in onto the monetization of the smaller-medium creators. We need to be careful. The market for censorship resistance isn't so big yet, but it's growing. In fact, I believe each of us have our own battles to fight. For them, it's to stay in control and shape up the future of interaction online, for us, to become relevant in the social space online. Hive and AI I don't see a relevant future of Hive that doesn't include AI, in different forms. We can choose a future without AIs on Hive (or parts of Hive), but it would be like in today's world one would choose to ignore smart phones, with all their good and bad facets. Our text-based blockchain makes it highly suitable for training LLMs, which being a permissionless blockchain, probably has happened and will happen, whether we want it or not. We may choose to set up our own LLMs or not, and under our own rules and preferences, but we can't really stop ANY other LLM from training on our data, if they want to. LeoAI, INLEO's LLM based on one of the chatgpt models (they may have changed it) and additionally trained on Hive data, may or may not come out in full force in 2025. It is probably already used in production in certain areas (probably the "for you" feed), but the chat or the copilot-like (for posting) parts are not available publicly yet. Ending Words We have many projects that continue to be developed and if we make snapshots every year, we might be surprised how much they change in a year, or how many additional projects they work on (Peak Open projects are an interesting case, Hive Keychain is also continuously developed). Other projects may not have a high development rhythm, but they are there, reliable, when you need them. There are also the smaller projects, ran by 1 or a few people, often building communities around them. While maybe they don't look impressive to be in the spotlight, some of them have serious people behind, thinking long term. What else do you think will put their mark on 2025 for Hive? Some of the descriptions people give of their projects can be a bit technical and so it's hard to see the benefits. We do need to invest in development to move forward and it's up to the community to decide who they trust to do it. The better $HIVE price is likely to get people excited and maybe stick around more. And I agree, some projects may be important or useful, but if there isn't an easy way to present them to a wider audience, there is still the targeted audiences where they'll find people interested. We do need to invest in development to move forward and it's up to the community to decide who they trust to do it. Trust is a factor when deciding where funding goes. The better $HIVE price is likely to get people excited and maybe stick around more. Yep, Hive pumps made people excited again, and had the interesting effect (along with high trading volumes) to get us more listings and more eye balls from the outside, among people mostly interested in trading for the short term. I'm definitely using other platforms less as they get more annoying. They are getting annoying, for sure. What I definitely don't want to see is lots of 'AI' generated content, but it can have uses to finding what we like. I have no problem with AI-generated content with one condition: that it is made clear it is AI-generated. Also, if the quality is sub-par, not a well-trained model, a testing period, etc. it should have declined rewards. That's not a targeted audience, and, as you said, they aren't cheap. Given the pullback in the price of HIVE, I used my HBD from author rewards this way this week: 2/3 to buy more HIVE 1/3 added to the HBD in savings goal Current situation of this multi-year goal (mostly intended for 2025): HIVE Purchased Below 20c - Completed This was a temporary goal, HIVE-oriented: Buy at least 50 HIVE every week while the price of HIVE is below 20 cents Final situation of HIVE purchases during this temporary goal: Total HIVE Purchased: 705.731 (not updated with purchases after the goal was considered completed) Posting & Commenting Goal I haven't missed a daily post this year yet. Reached 2005 posts published, which means I hit my target for 2024 without missing a post yet. I was more conservative when setting my goal, thinking I won't be able to post daily this year, but looks like I am about to do that... Here's the situation so far: I haven't missed any edition of Week through Adrian's Lenses in 2024 either, and I mention this since it's also part of my posting goal. Overall, I reached the 101st edition of the weekly roundup which debuted at the beginning of 2023. I still need to publish this news update post for the remaining 2 weeks to have this completed as well. I also started the week with 21,104 comments made. Ended the week with 21186 which means I made 82 comments last week. I don't expect to complete this one. Overall, I expect my social goals to be mostly completed at the year end, except comments made, which will likely be somewhere in high 80%. LEO Staked - Completed Goal of 25000 staked LEO achieved in week 42 (started from the beginning of the year). Here's the final situation (not updated with new power ups until the year end): I participated at the last LPUD of 2024 with 150 LEO. Splinterlands: 200k Staked SPS Goal started in week 39 with roughly 180k SPS (before staking liquid SPS). I started last week with 196,018 SPSP and finished it with 197,361 SPSP, which means I added 1,343 SPSP last week and today. I need an average of roughly 1,320 SPS weekly to complete this goal in 2024, which means this week was average. Here's the situation so far: Splinterlands: Increase Grain PP to 400,000 - Completed Goal started in week 19 and competed in week 39. Which is the final status for this target? Final grain production was 411,721 PP. The major bottleneck for me here is and has always been for land staked DEC. Land Plots Unlocked - Completed Goal completed in Week 18, with the following situation at the time: 73 plots were productive and 27 were still under construction. All plots are productive as of week 35. Now I need way more DEC to stake better PP cards on my lower-end land plots. ZING Multiplier - Completed Goal completed in week 10 with 25,203 ZING. Since then, I slowly grew my stash from staking and collection rewards (achievements) only. We have a new Advent Calendar event. This time, we receive the soul-bound resource called Holo dust, every day we claim rewards. At the end of the challenge we'll receive an achievement too. My ZING holdings are now at 59,103. Getting Ready for Sollar Energy gadrian (74)in LeoFinance • 6 days ago Renewable energy generation and usage has been increasing pretty much everywhere in the world. They are practically infinite sources of energy that don't need to replenish over long periods of time (unlike oil, coal, natural gas, or uranium), and they are friendly with the environment. I'm sure most of you know, but just for the context, this is what is considered renewable energy: solar energy wind energy hydro power geothermal energy biomass energy tidal and wave energy green hydrogen (splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity from a renewable energy source) In our country, there has been quite a movement in the population to install photovoltaic panels on the roofs of their houses to capture the solar energy. It's true, this movement was amplified by government subsidies in a program that has supported people becoming prosumers. The program has been going on for some years, and renewed yearly so far. Source In my neighborhood, most houses have solar panels installed. I can't say just by looking at them how many were installed by accessing the funding of this program and how many on their own, or a combination of the two. For example, my immediate neighbors (their house next to ours), did both. They installed parts of the solar panels through the program, and then installed more entirely self-funded. One condition to participate in this program is to not be funded in a program from one of the previous years. Otherwise, everyone would apply yearly to extend their installed power at no or minimum costs. I haven't been able to apply yet, mainly because we wanted to redo the roof first. Which we did. Its shape, more than its quality was an issue for us regarding the installment of solar panels. Now we are ready to apply to the program that will start shortly. I started to gather the needed documents, and tomorrow I'll probably have the last missing piece, but I'll go over everything one more time afterwards to make sure. The online application itself to this program is a very stressful event, as everything ends in a few minutes and often not all applicants get funded. For example, not all applicants from last year were funded, and from my understanding, if they apply again, they have priority. My neighbor caught this funding in the 3rd year... But my brother-in-law caught it from the first year, so it matters how quickly you move when entering documents. Compared to previous years, in this year's program it is mandatory to install batteries as well. Which I think is a great deal! It reduces the dependency on the national electricity grid, and if consumption and production balance out over different times of day and seasons, one can opt out of the national grid. I know people who have done that. It also increases the decentralization of the electricity production and storage, which is important in so many ways given the high dependency we have on electricity in our modern times. If everything goes well, I'll probably have my solar panels installed and working by... next year? Oh well... much better than after 3 or 4 years, lol.
